About

A reading room, not an adviser

Northline publishes plain-language notes on long-term investing: funds, fees, and the habits that matter more than a ticker. The byline is Northline Desk. There is no pretence of a personal fund manager behind the essays.

Nothing on this site is personal advice, a recommendation to buy a named fund, or a forecast. Markets fall. You can get back less than you invest. Rules on tax, account protection, and which products you may buy depend on where you live, and they change.

We would rather a reader own one cheap global fund they understand than a clever portfolio they will abandon. If that sounds too plain, the journal is still the right shelf. The glossary is the short version of the vocabulary.

Referral disclosure

Some links point to Trading 212 through a referral invite: https://www.trading212.com/invite/4DuWMiMB3jt. If you open an account through that invite and the programme’s conditions are met, Northline may receive a referral reward. That reward does not increase the price you pay the broker.

Offers, fees, and eligibility change. Read the current terms on Trading 212’s own site before you apply. Northline is not Trading 212, is not a broker, and is not a regulated adviser. We do not hold client money and we do not see your account.

Guides mention Trading 212 where a broker feature — fractional shares, or Pies — is part of the explanation. Other brokers exist. Mention is not an instruction to use this one, and it is not a review of every fee they charge. The practical checklist is on the start page.
